On June 22, 2016 the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority (SMAA) Police Department was awarded accredited status by the Commission of Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) for a 3-year term. The Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) receives this status for the first time, following a thorough assessment by the CFA assessment team earlier this year.

CFA evaluators were at SRQ from April 19-21, 2016 to assess the SMAA Police Department’s policies, procedures, management, operations and services. “The CFA accreditation is the gold standard of law enforcement excellence and a process by which law enforcement agencies throughout Florida work cooperatively to enhance the quality of services we provide to our citizens,” stated Rick Piccolo, SRQ President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are very proud of this achievement as it proves that our police department meets the highest level of professionalism. Our main goal is to strive to maintain this status,” said SRQ Police Chief James Carlino.

In order to receive accredited status, a law enforcement agency has to comply with the CFA standards. The standards are critical to Police operations within the airport and beneficial to the SRQ community and the SMAA police department.
