SRQ Ends 2018 on Sky-High Note

Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) ended the calendar year 2018 with a 16% increase in passenger traffic over calendar year 2017. Passenger traffic for the month of December 2018 was 39% higher than December 2017. This was the 9th straight month of increased passengers with the last 8 months incurring double-digit increases averaging 28%.

Growth began in April 2018 with the addition of Allegiant Air, SRQ’s first ultra-low-cost carrier, and was followed by Frontier Airlines, a 2nd ultra-low-cost carrier, in December. The airport now hosts 8 airlines serving 26 nonstop destinations.

SRQ is expected to continue the upward growth trend in 2019 with new air service additions starting over the next few months. These additions include Baltimore/Washington (BWI) and Ashville (AVL) starting Feb. 22, Harrisburg (MDT) and Syracuse (SYR) starting Apr. 3, Columbus (LCK), Richmond (RIC), and Cleveland (CLE) starting Apr. 4, and Grand Rapids (GRR) and Nashville (BNA) starting Apr. 5.
