Sarasota Bradenton International Airport Showcases Best Student Art
The Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) is delighted to announce that it received over 700 entries for its Student Art Show, and has selected the top 100 pieces to be showcased at the airport. The annual event, now in its 10th year, will be unveiled at a reception at SRQ on Thursday, April 4, 2013, 7:00 pm.
“It is a true joy to walk through the terminal and see the passengers taking pleasure in the beautiful collection of student artwork on display in the terminal,” stated SRQ President, Chief Executive Officer, Rick Piccolo. “SRQ is delighted with the vast number of entries for our tenth show, and we look forward to the program’s continued growth and success in the community.”
The art show challenges public, private and home-schooled students in Sarasota and Manatee counties to create unique works of art and submit them for the opportunity to win a coveted space on the wall of SRQ’s ticketing and check-in area. The top 100 pieces are selected by a panel of judges from art associations in Sarasota and Manatee, and are evaluated on originality, technique and execution, and visual impact. First, second, third and Best of Show awards are selected from four grade level categories (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12), and are awarded with a cash prize as well as a place in the SRQ exhibit. Teachers of the honored students are rewarded with a drawing for a pair of JetBlue Airways round-trip tickets for each county, which JetBlue donates each year.
The recipients of the contest’s cash prizes are announced at the event and all 100 works of art are revealed to the public, as well as the artists’ family and friends. Attendees enjoy light refreshments while viewing these astounding pieces of art.
